So you want a little taste but...

You are a poor college student, broke, dutch, lazy, full already, a DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince fan, or simply exercising your right to "just say no!?" Well I've got the medicine. Do you want to try a cup of soup at the Sparrows Cafe and Newstand? Just ask Uncle Cheetah and he will grant you a PASS. Send me an email to: theelectriccheetah [at] yahoo [dot] com with your mailing address and be sure to put, Re: soup pass, in the subject line and I will send you out your free Soup Pass even if you are West Michigan Dutch. Available while supplies last.

Day 14

Nothing happened. I would be posting pitures, but I have decided to wait until the property actually changes, because if I post pictures from the weekend, it will look the same, and if I post pictures when no noticeable changes occur, then it will just get boring.

Love,

Turkey Sandwich

Well you get some damn soup of course.

Hi there friends. Tomorrow at the Sparrows, I will unleash my Grilled Michigan Asparagus Soup. With Michigan Asparagus season just getting underway, I thought that it would be appropiate to highlight one of Michigan's unique vegetables. Grilled asparagus is one of my favorite things to eat in the spring and summer and I tried to create a soup that tastes like you are spooning fresh-off-the-grill asparagus into your mouth. I used all the componants of my asparagus grilling technique and turned it into a delicious, lite, sensitive, spring soup. ENJOY!

What to you get when you take...

GRILLED MICHIGAN ASPARAUS, CARMELIZED LEMONS,
AND GRILLED VIDALIA ONIONS & POBLANO PEPPERS?...

Small Plates Example

This is what we had for dinner tonight and will be an example of a small plates item when that menu comes into effect about 2 months after opening. This is an antipasti platter that has grilled mushrooms, grilled asparagus, grilled sweet bell peppers, grilled spicy rattlesnake sausage, capicola ham, fresh mozzerella cheese, grilled red onions, grilled grape tomatoes, and a grilled corn relish, topped with chives, basil, sea salt, black pepper, and olive oil, and served with grilled sesame baguette, grilled multigrain baguette, fresh horseradish cream, and 5 pepper mustard on the side. My family enjoyed it.

Fried Chicken, French Fries, and this guy.

We went to the Sysco food show thinking that the focus was going to be on organic and green products, and while there were a few there, and we did find some things that were interesting such as a bakery in Muskegon who uses all natural products in thier bread and the assurance that Sysco's premium meats are from all hormone free and at least grain fed animals, the only other thing that we found was a lot of fried chicken, and companies showcasing thier lines of fried foods. Oh yeah, there were soooooooooooo many people there including this guy...

Day 2

Day 1

I had this idea to take a picture of the property everyday and post it so you can see the progress as the building is biult. I am sure that I will forget a few days here and there, or not be able to take a picture on certain days, but I will try my best. I am lucky I took a picture yesterday, because wait until you see what Day 2 looks like.

Broken Grounds/Broken Hearts

Well it happend and it was quite a turn out. I would say that there were 50+ people that attended the ceremony, three news stations, Wood TV8 having done the best story and you can see it here: http://www.woodtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=8166656 for how long I dont know. Everyone was in great spirits and what a lovely day it turned out to be. Thanks Bear Manor, you are too great! Also there is a story here at the Chomber of Commerce: http://www.grandrapids.org/news/ribboncuttings/recentevents/

The Big Ragout Tomorrow at the Sparrows.

Look out! Here comes The Big Ragout! Tomorrow I will be delivering the first in my line of spring soups to The Sparrows Cafe and Newstand. This "Big Ragout" named after Carmine from the Laverne and Shirly Show, is a blend of roasted vegetables and herbs, blended and topped with organic yogurt and chopped chives. I found it to be very, very fancy indeed. It will also be serving free samples at the Meanwhile Bar from 4-6 tomorrow evening as part of our groud breaking reception. Get Some!

Ground Breaking Ceremony 1015 Wealthy.

Hi friends, I just wanted to let you know that there will be a Ground Breaking Ceremony for the new LEED certified green building, the new home of The Electric Cheetah Bistro, on Monday April 14th at 4:00pm. Following the Ground Breaking Ceremony, where we will be digging into the earth with soup spoons, an afterparty will be held at the Meanwhile Bar, just two doors west, where the new Flaming Cheetah Drink will be on special. I will also be kicking off the sale of Electric Cheetah Bills. $10 for a $12 Electric Cheetah bill. See you there.

WSBA and Son

Yesterday I made organic blueberry pancakes for the WSBA meeting. And like, there was like this kid there, and his name was like Cowin, and he was all, what are these, and like can I help with this, and totally all up in my grill, literally, but he was a nice guy. Here is what he looked like the whole time he was playing 290 questions with me. Uh Jodi if you read this, I charge $2.50 an hour.

WYCE Fundraiser

I was there. I brought soup. I thought it was good and I suppose everyone else did, becasuse people were coming back for seconds, and thirds, and I ran out. This picture is what it looked like up in that Bitch.

Here is one of my ideas for the server uniforms.

Let me know what you think.

Employment Electric Cheetah

Hi Y'all. I have been getting several emails about employment, enough of them to make me write this blog post.

I am not hiring as of right now. There are still several things that I need to take care of before I can even think about hiring people, like painting, lighting, permits, health dept, etc... However, I do appreciate everyone's enthusiasm to support a locally owned, independent, privately funded (by people who are broke) venture.

I think that I have my kitchen all staffed with people who I have worked with over the years, but I will be hiring servers, to-go people, dishwashers, and a zoo-keeper to scrub down the cheetah, that is a joke, for those of you who are offended by the fact that I might actually employ a live cheetah.

Here is pretty much what I am looking for...

Number one, you must LOVE FOOD! You must be passionate about eating it, cooking it, watching other people enjoying it, rolling around in it and really want to pass on information about why it is better to use quality ingredients and not "cut corners" when it comes to creating something as simple as for instance, a turkey sandwich. I could go on and on here, but for those of you who have gotten it by now, you get it.

There are reasons that we are choosing things like Pepsi instead of Coke, and local meat instead of Wal-Mart meat, and if you get that, then you get it.

I appreciate people with a sense of humor, who like to cross lines, and are not shy, are happy and smile genuinely, but are intelligent enough to know that it is still a restaurant and we will have all kinds of personalities dining here; to be successful, we must be smart enough to recognize these different types of people and treat them accordingly given their specific needs. I am loud and the picture of the waiter pouring coffee and missing the cup kind of sums up my sense of humor, but I also realize that there will be fancy ladies that come here that would rather have their coffee IN the cup.

I will not tolerate people coming in late and hung over and calling in sick and having a million cigarette breaks and that is as mean as I get. I just can spot bullshit a mile away and there are lots of people who want jobs like this that are not alcoholics. Sorry I had to say that, but I really feel that there are better things to focus your attention on rather than booze and bullshit.

That's all. For those of you who want to get involved, I might have a few opportunities to cater with me as they come up, and I will let you know. If you really want to send me a resume, theelectriccheetah [at] yahoo [dot] com. But if you REALLY think you are the type of person I am looking for, then maybe we should meet for coffee or something, but emails work best. I am not really concerned with the experience that you have had, because everyone needs the chance to start somewhere, but I am definitely looking for someone who lives in the neighborhood, or at least no more than a few miles away and wants to have a job long term in a cool neighborhood bistro and be a complement to its success.
